Royal bride-to-be to stay in hotel night before wedding

Royal fiancée Kate Middleton is rumoured to have booked herself into a luxury hotel for the night before her wedding ceremony.

Miss Middleton is expected to spend her last evening as a single woman at the Goring in Belgravia, central London, which was a favourite of the Queen Mother and Baroness Thatcher.

It is thought the family and friends of Prince William’s fiancée have already made plans to stay at the five-star hotel that celebrated its centenary last year.

The Edwardian establishment is a short walk from Buckingham Palace where the wedding reception and evening dinner celebrating the marriage will be held.

William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales spent the night before her wedding at Clarence House, the then home of the Queen Mother, marrying the Prince of Wales the next day – July 29, 1981.

Fashion designers David Emanuel and Elizabeth Emanuel, who created the Princess’s famous wedding dress, wrote: “The whole thing was run like a military operation. We had clipboards, we had guys telling everyone that at so many hundred hours, Lady Diana should get into the dress; at so many hundred hours she should descend to the carriage, and so on.”

If Miss Middleton stays at the Goring it is likely it will also become a hive of activity, with a team of people preparing the bride for her big day on Friday April 29.

Chief executive Jeremy Goring is the fourth generation of his family to run the hotel established by his great-grandfather Otto Richard Goring in 1910.

When first opened, each bedroom had en-suite bathrooms – claimed to be a first anywhere in the world – and rooms cost seven shillings and six pence. Today, the price of a room with a queen bed is more than £400 but some rise to four figures.

The hotel is a favourite with foreign royalty, and other famous guests have included David Frost and Vanessa Redgrave.

A St James’ Palace spokeswoman said: “We will not discuss Miss Middleton’s plans for the night before the wedding.”
